Dear Parrot Lover,

If you are a parrot owner, then you surely know how wonderfully talkative parrots can be! They have an amazing ability to create all kinds of sounds and noises. But they also have the ability to say words and phrases too, all they need is the proper training.

Teaching your parrot to talk at home is not as daunting a process as you may think. As long as you equip yourself with the right tools, and the right frame of mind, anything is possible!

Parrots are smarter than dogs and cats and easily pick up words and sounds quickly. Parrots can be taught to understand long sentences and short words alike. Their first attempt at learning to talk will most likely be by learning to mimic the noises and sounds that you make when you are talking to them.

Therefore, you should always be consciously aware of the words you speak around your parrot. Choose words that are easy to pronounce so that your parrot can easily pick up on the sounds as this will help them to learn faster.

You should then focus on these words and use them in various phrases and sentences so that your parrot can easily pick them out, as well as hearing them used in different types of contexts. Pretty soon your parrot will be picking up on those words and will be repeating them back to you! Remember, that as soon as your parrot says a word, or at least tries to say a word, you should immediately praise him or her. Giving your parrot their favorite treat is also a good idea to reward them from their effort.

Set aside some time each day where you and your parrot can have some alone time to learn new words and phrases. Make sure that there will be no interruptions during this time! Make the teaching lessons short and sweet - never overdo it or expect too much from your parrot during the first few lessons. And make the lessons fun! A bored parrot will not learning anything!

You can also teach your parrot to talk at home by repeating certain words with certain actions, such as saying ‘bye-bye’ whenever you leave the house, or ’sleepy-time’ every night when you cover your parrot’s cage for the night. This will help your parrot to associate certain actions with certain words.

Another tip is to tell your parrot what food they are eating every time you offer it to them, such as a banana. This will help reinforce the meanings behind the words to your parrot.

Remember to have fun teaching your parrot to talk!

Have you always wanted a bird that could talk up a storm, whistle, sing tunes, and more? Maybe you’ve admired other birds and thought you couldn’t teach yours to do the same thing. Or maybe it’s just a whole lot easier than you thought it was!

Why Can It Be Easy?

It can be easier than you think if you just know the way to do it. Most training problems with birds come down to the fact that we don’t always know how to work with them. Training a bird doesn’t have to be hard at all.

A new system, a “real speech” training system, makes it easier than ever to teach a parrot to talk. You can actually help your bird build a vocabulary of several hundred words! This system was developed by bird people who learned through experience exactly the best ways to train your bird. There are lots of factors that can affect your bird’s learning. Things like:

Dear Parrot Lover,

If your parrot exhibits any unwanted behaviors or has any bad habits, you will definitely need to train your parrot to obey you before those behaviors and habits spiral out of control. All bad behaviors and habits can be trained out of a parrot - all you need is the proper knowhow and plenty of patience.

Training Tips:

Because training a parrot requires patience, it is important for you to only begin a training session when you are calm and relaxed.

Make sure that neither you nor your parrot will be distracted by anything, such as the TV, cellphone and other family members or pets.

Learn to read you parrot’s body language so that you can more easily identify when your parrot is stressed, and also when to avoid a bite that may be imminent. Your parrot’s body language is the only way in which your parrot can truly communicate with you. And if your parrot is too stressed out, he will not learn anything during a training session as he will be too busy stressing and being scared. If you find that your parrot is stressing, try to calm him down by offering him his favorite treat.

Always use positive reinforcement when training your parrot. As soon as your parrot does obey your command or does something, you should immediately give him a treat or other type of reward, such as genuine praise. But if your parrot is misbehaving, it is best to simply ignore his antics. Your parrot desperately wants your undivided attention, and so he will quickly learn that certain behaviors grant your attention, whilst others do not - he’ll soon learn the difference.

Never, ever punish your parrot. Even negative attention, in the form of a punishment, is still considered by your parrot to be attention and punishing your parrots will make him get used to the negative attention which can cause your parrot to continue his naughty behavior.

Always keep your parrot’s training sessions short, sweet and to the point. This is just as much for your own sanity as it is for your parrots, as parrots have relatively short attention spans.

After the training session is done, allow your parrot to return to his cage or play stand for a few minutes of quiet playtime.

Always practice patience. Just like you, your parrot has a very unique personality and this will play a large part in their training. Do not become discouraged - it will take quite a few training sessions for your parrot to understand exactly what it is that you are training him to do.

If there is one thing that everyone can agree on, it would be that no one can agree! That is true of just about everything in life but particularly when it comes to training animals. The problem for the average bird owner is that you’re left with trying to muddle your way through it all and figure out what works best for your bird.

You may be successful and you may not be successful. That’s why I want to share with you an easy training system that works with your bird to both teach new behaviors but to also correct bad behaviors.

Click here to learn about bird training

Learn from Experience

Just about the best way to learn the right way to do something is to do the research and then go with the pros. There is always someone that has come before you, had triumphs but has also made mistakes, and then has honed in a really good way of doing something.

Luckily, there is a pro in the bird training field that has done this for you. His methods stand up to trial and error and are even used by world renowned magician David Copperfield with his own personal birds.

Click here to see David and his birds

Not only can you use training to teach your bird neat tricks (like waving his foot, putting a ring on a peg, etc.), you can also use training to bond with your bird. Plus, training helps ward off boredom in your bird and behavioral issues like screaming and feather plucking. You can create a much happier and nicer bird with no magic involved!

With this training system, you’ll have instant access to training videos that will show you step-by-step how to work with your bird. Let a pro show you the way!

Dear Parrot Lover,

Parrots spend a vast majority of their time standing on their feet; because of this, it is very important that your parrot has a variety of safe and comfortable perches in their cage.

The best perch for your parrot should be easy on their feet, fun for them to use, safe for them to chew on and preen, appropriately textured and, of course, very easy to clean. It is best to provide your parrot with an assortment of perches that are placed at various heights throughout their cage. It is also a very good idea to have these perches be of differing diameters and made of different materials as this helps to ensure proper exercise and foot health for your parrot.

At a bare minimum, there should be at least 3 perches in your parrot’s cage that each has a different diameter. These different diameters will help to relax and stretch your parrot’s feet. These three perches must also be created using diverse materials such as wood, concrete and rope.

Rope perches are a favorite of any parrot! Not only are you able to purchase them in varying diameters to fit any size parrot foot, but they can also be purchased in different shapes and overall lengths and sizes. Rope perches can easily be attached to almost any point inside your parrot’s cage; and with the bendable perches such as the bungee styles, you can actually change up the shape of the perch whenever you or your bird gets bored with its current shape.

Rope perches can often be used as a swing for parrots, provided that they are not the bungee style. You can even get creative and tie a few colorful pieces of cotton yarn or fleece at various intervals on the rope perch so that your parrot has something to preen.

When choosing a rope perch, buy one that is created using 100% cotton and that also has a relatively smooth surface without any loose ends or fibers. These can be dangerous for your parrot because they can get their toe stuck in the rope and they can hurt themselves if they were to panic.

The best thing about most rope perches is that when they get really soiled, you can simply place them in your washing machine or dishwasher to clean, making sure that you do not use any harmful detergent.

Bird Fun!

Bringing Fun to Your Bird’s Life

Click To Order The Amazing Perches And Toys
For Your Parrot Right NOW

Have you ever tried to get inside your bird’s head and figure out what he is thinking?

It’s only human to try and guess what his squawks add up to! What I’ve noticed when watching birds is that they absolutely love to have new and interesting things to do. Why?

The answer is easy: birds are intelligent creatures! The more new or varied stuff, the better it is for their brains and bodies. And, it doesn’t have to be just toys jangling about the cage either.

Click here to learn about bird perches

Beyond the Toys

When we talk about bringing fun to your bird, everyone automatically thinks about toys. Toys are good, and they are vital, but it’s not the only choice.

Birds love to climb and use their feet. What is really interesting about perching birds is the way their feet work. If you watch closely, they are almost hand like. The bird uses them to climb, hold on, pick things up, etc. It’s this reason that perches are an integral part of your bird’s life.

We all know what the standard perch looks like that comes in the cage: just a bar to extend from one end to the other. Unfortunately, this doesn’t stimulate your bird’s desire to climb and roam at varying levels. But, if you use a bendable rope perch, it gives you the option to continually change it up. You can use more than one; you can bend and twist, or even intertwine them. Plus, the feel of the rope is a more natural texture for your bird’s feet to grab hold of.

Click here to order the bendable rope perch for your parrot

Stimulate His Mind

We all know the saying ‘bird brain,’ and it is normally used in a not-so-positive way, but really we should think of being a ‘bird brain’ as a positive thing! These parrots are incredibly intelligent animals that get easily bored. This is why they often make up their own naughty entertainment.

Rope perches are an excellent way to help prevent boredom in your bird and allow him to use his mind. You can change the rope perches as often as you want to give him new ways to move and always keep his environment fresh for him.

This type of stimulation helps stave off behavior problems that can occur in captive birds due to boredom. Plus, these perches are appropriate for all sizes of birds from the small to the big so no one is left out!

Click here to see the rope perch

Dear Parrot Lover,

It is only natural to want to train your parrot to talk! Who doesn’t love listening to a talking parrot?

Well, learning to teach your parrot to talk is actually quite simple. Most parrots, especially the larger ones such as Macaws, Cockatoos and African Greys, have an innate talking ability. All you will lead is plenty of patience and proper knowledge on how to train your parrot to realize their full talking potential. Here are a few parrot talking tips:

Introduce a new word or phrase to your parrot by first speaking it aloud. Then you can use that same word or phrase in a sentence. This will help your parrot to hear the word being repeated in different contexts.

Every time your parrot echoes the word back to you, make sure you give him lots of praise and maybe even a treat!

Engaging in a conversation with your parrot can also be a great way to help him improve his talking ability. Stick with chatting back and forth with him about things like food, treats and toys.

Be sure to clearly pronounce your words so that your parrot can easily pick up on the sounds.

Set aside at least 30 minutes per day to start, where you and your parrot will not be interrupted by other pets, family members, friends or your favorite television show.

Never scold or punish your parrot. Parrots learn at their own pace - you cannot rush them.

Be sure to reward him just for at least trying to say the word or phrase correctly.

You can eventually train your parrot to respond verbally to questions that you ask him, using the words and phrases that you have taught him.

Continue with your parrot’s training until he is able to correctly respond with the right answer at least 90% of the time. Once this occurs, it is then time to move onto a new word or phrase. Remember not to give up too soon - and have lots of fun!

Most people that decide to bring a parrot into their home envision a bird that loves to talk, whistle, sing, and entertain. What happens when the bird doesn’t decide to talk as much or maybe at all?

Even if your parrot knows a few words or phrases, would you like him to be able to do more? Parrots are naturally inclined to mimic and make noises, and it is very realistic for your bird to be able to know and speak hundreds of word, if you want him to!

It’s Easy to Do

With a little training and the right knowledge, you can increase your bird’s vocabulary right away. The key is knowing exactly how to do it.

The ‘Real Speech’ training system shows you exactly how you can work with your bird for only 15 minutes a day to build your bird’s vocabulary. You’ll learn the tricks of the trade in DVDs, CDS, and e-books that show valuable tips such as:

What words your bird may always resist saying

Nathan is only 13 and taught his bird 8 new words in only 2 months!

Dear Parrot Lover,

As parrot owners we want to ensure that our parrots receive the very best care, the very best food and the very best cage. But we should try to make sure that our parrots also receive the very best parrot toy too.

Not one that just looks pretty, but a toy that is truly safe for your parrot to play with is also important.

Take a look at your parrot’s current selection of toys. Can you honestly say that they are:

Created using tanned vegetable leather

Not created using formaldehyde in any form

Created with iron or stainless steal

Not created with a zinc coating

Created with woods that are vegetable dyed

Not created using paints, lacquers, glues or adhesives

Created with chains and links that are made out of stainless steel to attach the toys to the cage bars

If you can’t, then those toys may actually be detrimental to your parrot’s health. If you are unsure how your parrot’s toys were created; or if you do not know what those toys are made of or what they are made from, don’t worry, you are not alone! Nearly every unsuspecting parrot owner in the world today cannot honestly say that they truly know how their parrot’s toys are made or where they actually come from.

A large majority of parrot toys are manufactured in foreign countries and then are imported into the USA. Although this is usually due to cheaper labor, it is also due to cheaper components too. Sadly, most of these foreign countries have rather subpar standards than what the USA has, especially when it concerns the proper health care of our cats, dogs and parrots. This means that the toys your parrot may be playing with right now may actually contain harmful components that could injure them or cause them to be ill.

Caring for your parrot should also extend to making sure that their toys are safe and healthy to play with. To this end it is important to realize that there are certain woods, dyes, chemicals, metals, and other such components, that are absolutely harmful to your parrot’s overall wellbeing, especially toys that contain Lead or Zinc as these can lead to poisoning over the long run. Parrot toys that are made with wood and leather should also be checked thoroughly as there are some woods that are poisonous to parrots, such as Apple. Leather that has been dyed with anything but vegetable dye can also cause your parrot to become ill. Therefore it is important to choose your parrot’s toys wisely.

Birds: The Curious Brain

Click here to see how easy it is to keep your bird happy

Birds are such interesting and intelligent creatures that have an almost insatiable curiosity about the world around them. In the wild they can be found flying miles in a day, discovering all sorts of new things.

In our captive lives, it is important that we still simulate our bird’s brain to a high level. We can’t offer the miles of flying per day, so we must offer a high level of toy interaction that stimulates his curiosity.

Click to see how new toys stimulate your parrot’s brain

How Would Your Bird Like a NEW Toy Each Month?

As bird owners, like all pet owners, we tend to purchase a few initial toys at the pet store when we’ve popped in for new feed. Those toys are limited in their selection and aren’t always made of the highest quality, particularly for the largest of our pet birds.

Has your bird been looking at the same tired set of toys for the last few months? Has he grown tired of pushing beads, looking in the mirror, or has his perch become frayed?

While these toys were once great fun perhaps, they have lost their luster. Imagine if your bird could have access to new bird toys each and every month, and they arrived in the mail so you didn’t even have to go to the store to get them?

Click to learn about the Parrot Toys by Mail club
and receiving toys each month

Toys that are Safe!

Did you know many of those toys in the pet stores are cheaply made in other countries and use materials that can be toxic to your bird? It’s not uncommon to find materials like arsenic, lead, zinc, formaldehyde, and stained woods to name a few. These can all lead to very serious health problems in your bird and even death.

The Parrot Toys by Mail club only creates toys that are totally natural and safe with materials like coconut fiber, corn cob, oyster shells, safe leather, sisal cord, cuttle bone, bamboo, and more. These great toys are safe and fun!

Click here to check out what toys are in the Parrot Toys by Mail club

Dear Parrot Lover,

Most parrot owners who have an unruly parrot believe that their bird’s naughtiness is just simply part of their unique personality and they, as owners, have to learn to live with it. Some owners will live in fear of their uncontrollable parrot for many years, until they learn that you CAN train your parrot! Sadly, some parrot owners will never learn this and their lives will continue to be unpleasant for both them and their parrot.

If you are one of those parrot owners who has an unmanageable parrot, and wishes you had more control over your parrot’s behavior, do not give up just yet. There are quite a few techniques that you can try at home to learn to properly train your parrot.

Before you attempt to train your parrot, you first will need to make sure that you are in a calm and relaxed mood. If you are high strung, or have just come home from a stressful day at work, your parrot will very quickly pick up on that and will be stressed out and high strung as well. Parrots are very sensitive creatures and need to have their flock leaders set a good example of proper behavior and emotion. Always be patient when training your parrot and never raise your voice or shout at your parrot, even if she does something wrong or naughty. If you do, you will have unintentionally taught your parrot that whenever she is naughty she will be rewarded with a show from you. This ’show’ will actually be you raising your voices and maybe even ‘flapping’ your arms around. Parrots enjoy comedic antics and cannot discern good from bad just yet.

Before starting a training session with your parrot, make sure that you have an area in your house to work with your parrot where the two of you will be uninterrupted by other family members, pets, radios or televisions. You want your parrot’s undivided attention. However, it is also best to keep the training sessions short and sweet. And to give your parrot a chance to take a break and play a little bit before you place her back in her cage.

When you are training your parrot, try to be as amusing as possible and overly pronounce words and phrases that you want her to learn. Such actions and sounds will grasp her attention quickly and she will either want to mimic you or do whatever she just did again so that you can provide her with the comedic show again.

Try to be as consistent as possible with your parrot’s training sessions. Be patient. Never raise your voice. Show your parrot that training can be fun and rewarding. You CAN train your parrot!

Your parrot’s overall wellbeing is very important as a parrot that is well cared for will live a very happy and healthy life for many years to come.

The first thing to consider when trying to put your parrot on the right path to good health, is to make sure that they are eating right. A good diet makes a good parrot!

Parrots should eat plenty of fresh fruit and veggies daily. But they should also be allowed to experienced human food such as cooked pasta. Make sure to remove any leftover fruits, veggies or cooked foods when your parrot is done eating them as they might spoil and will make your parrot very sick if she eats them.

Supplement your parrot’s diet with good pellet mix. Try to choose one that does not contain Ethoxyquin, a preservative found in most pellet mixes. This preservative has been the cause of many parrot deaths over the years. Also, choose a pellet mix that does not contain too many colored pellets. While your parrot will certainly enjoy the bright colors offered to her, these colored pellets are actually made with colored sugar to give them their vibrant hues. Too much sugar is actually quite bad for a parrot’s health and wellbeing. A proper parrot diet should include a mix of pellets, seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables and grains.

Avoid foods that are salty, fatty, contain caffeine, contain alcohol, or consist of chocolate, avocados, apple seeds or rhubarb leaves as these are all very toxic to parrots. Each type of parrot species has a unique dietary requirement. It would be in your parrot’s best interest for you to research what your parrot would eat in the wild and try to mimic that at home.

Of course, you should also make sure that your parrot has clean, fresh water available to her all the time, even if this means that you have to replace your parrot’s water three or four times a day. This is because there is a lot of bacteria that can grow quickly within dirty water that can make parrots very sick very quickly.

At least once per year, you should take your parrot into see a certified avian veterinarian for a checkup. This checkup is commonly referred to as a Well Bird Exam and should ideally be completed at least once every 6 months. The vet you see must be certified to treat birds, regular vets lack the special advanced training necessary to detect illness and injury in a pet parrot.

Always watch your parrot carefully and bring your parrot into the vet as soon as you notice any change in their behavior. Parrots will hide any injury or illness until it is almost too late to help them. So it is up to you be very vigilant to ensure your parrot’s wellbeing.

Dear Parrot Lover,

Contrary to popular belief, every parrot can be trained to not only act on command, but to also talk, whistle and sing on command as well. Some parrots can even be trained to roller-skate or to play table-top basketball.

However, this all starts with basic parrot training. Knowing the best way to train your parrot can lead to a happy, well-socialized, and well-trained parrot.

Training your parrot will take plenty of patience and time. Because of this it is very important to know that how you interact with your parrot will have a direct effect on their training and future attitude. Therefore, it is best to always remain positive and upbeat, regardless of how frustrated you might be. And never, ever, yell or throw things at your parrot. Under no circumstances should you smack your parrot either! These can all lead to emotional and physical harm, and borders on animal abuse.

Keep the training sessions always short, sweet and to the point. This will help keep things interesting and fun for both of you and will avoid any boredom ruts.

Another thing not to do is to withhold your parrot’s food, either as punishment or for training. Instead, use their food, or favorite treat, as a training aid - a reward for learning a new word, a new command or even for just attempting a new trick.

After your training session is done, let your parrot go back into their cage so that he or she can rest for a little while and have something to eat and drink. You should wait between 30 minutes to an hour before bringing him or her out of their cage to start another training session. Keep these training session to 2 - 3 per day. More than that and your parrot will start to feel stressed out.

When training your parrot, remember to play with your parrot as well. All work and no play, will make your parrot resent their training. For every training session you do together, make sure you have a play session as well.

Do you have a New Year’s resolution yet? Maybe you’re thinking about the classic ones we all hear about: eat better, lose weight, and exercise more. I’ve got a better resolution idea for you: develop a better relationship with your bird!

Although your bird can’t have a resolution, you and he can work on this one together for a better 2012. Even if you don’t think there is a single thing wrong with your bird, wouldn’t you like to learn new training skills and techniques that you can use to teach your bird new tricks?

Learning how to train your bird in a positive and consistent manner will allow you to teach your bird all kinds of neat tricks. It will also help you work with your bird to change your relationship and make a better one….that means you can change any bad behaviors like screaming at you, biting you, or plucking out his feathers.

Dear Parrot Lover,

After cats and dogs, parrots have become increasingly popular as a family pet. Raising a parrot to be healthy and happy can be a challenge. Here are five tips on how to raise a happy and healthy parrot:

Make sure you do your homework! Research all the different parrot species to find one that is a near-perfect match to your lifestyle. Some parrots are okay spending hours alone all day in their cage with only minimal interaction when you come home from work. While others have to be out of their cages most of the time. Some parrots are known to have very high shrill vocals, and others will hardly make a peep. Doing your research beforehand can help set the foundation for a happy and health parrot in the future.

Visit the Breeder! It is always best to purchase a baby parrot from a reputable breeder instead of a pet shop. This is because in a pet shop your new parrot may have been exposed to various types of airborne diseases and possibly even abuse by untrained staff. Ask the breeder if you can visit their nursery. Due to certain airborne avian diseases, the breeder may not allow you access into their nursery but they will allow you to visit their home and meet their breeder parrots. This will give you an idea of how well cared for the baby parrots are.

Choose wisely! Once you have selected the right species and the right breeder you will then have to choose the right parrot. Avoid a parrot that has signs of malnutrition or physical abuse. Malnourished parrots will look like they have very breastbones when in actuality it is their overall muscle mass that has decreased. Your parrots feathers should be soft and shiny with no signs of plucking. Their eyes should also be clear, with no discharge. There should also be no discharge from their nostrils.

Socialize! A great tip to raise a healthy parrot is to ensure proper socialization from the get-go. Parrots are very sociable creatures and enjoy the company of their flock members. Allow your parrot to interact with all members of your family as well as guests.

Training! To ensure that you parrot is a well-adjusted member of your family, you will need to train them. Every day spend some time training your parrot with commands such as ’step-up’, ’step-down’, as well as teaching them new words and phrases.

A Happy Healthy Bird

Parrots can live an exceptionally long time, sometimes even outliving their owners but only if you know how to care for them. Some parrots only live a few mere years because of sickness, poor diet, or lack of care.

Click here to see what can shorten your parrot’s lifespan

The good news is that it is easy to care for a parrot and provide him both a physically and mentally healthy environment.

What are the Keys to Health?

Proper cage setup

Proper feeding and nutrition
