Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Dear Parrot Lover,

Welcome to my new Parrot Blog. I am sure all the Parrot lovers across the globe will be have a great time while interacting through this Blog.

To I am going to reveal some important facts on Parrot diet that all parrot owners should know. Read on to know about them in details:

Here Are 8 Tips to Make Your Parrot Training More Effective

1. One very important thing should be kept in mind regarding fresh fruits and vegetables. They tend to rot very quickly, so make sure to remove them from the cage after a couple of hours.

2. Before giving apples make sure to remove all pits in order to remove the slightest traces of cyanide contained in them.

3. Parrots prone to obesity such as Amazons should not have much fruits in their diet.

4. Don’t give him only one or two fruits. Mix quite a few of them because birds like variety.

5. Fruits should not make up the whole diet of your parrot. Use them only as a supplement. His base diet should always be pellets and fresh green vegetables.

6. While changing his diet make sure he does not lose unnecessary weight. A little weight loss in healthy birds is fine, but you have to keep a strict vigil over the weight meter.

7. Never try to put a sick bird on a new diet.

8. Never starve a parrot into eating new food.

9. Parrots take time to adapt. Don’t expect him to start eating pellets and fresh veggies and fruits from the first day itself. Some birds may take more than a month to switch to the new diet.

10. Don’t give him only one fruit or vegetable. Variety does the magic.

You already know what is good for your parrot but along with that, you should also know what you should never feed your bird.

I would recommend you to take a print out of these points and keep it somewhere handy so that you can refer to it whenever you need to. This will help you remember what you should never feed your bird in any case.

12 Tips To Stop Your Parrot’s Bad Behavior

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Dear Parrot Lover,

Welcome to my new Parrot Blog. I am sure all the Parrot lovers across the globe are having a great time interacting with each other here.

All parrots need to stay busy. Keeping them busy makes them more active, enhances their mental stimuli and steers them away from boredom.

Here are 12 Essential Tips To Stop Your Parrot’s Bad Behavior

Toys keep Parrots busy, active and playful. Boredom and lack of activity can lead to dangerous ailments like feather plucking. Parrots like chewing things. You don’t want your sofas, your curtains, your vegetables or your important files and papers shredded into bits and pieces, do you? Of course not.

Can you imagine a human baby without a single toy? Similarly, Parrots also need toys because they are basically playful and mischievous by nature. Moreover, since you cannot give your attention to it 24×7, toys would keep them occupied.

There are many toys they can chew on. This way they can satisfy their chewing habits and you can save your things from getting torn into shreds.

You don’t need to buy expensive toys for your bird. Buy a cage that would be roomy enough to keep some toys in it. You can see the delight in your beloved pet’s eyes when you place some colorful toys inside the cage. But make sure the toys are not toxic in nature. Your bird’s safety is also important.

You can give your bird handmade toys or toys made of stainless steel, dye-free wood, vegetable tanned leather or cotton rope. Wooden spools and chains, jingles, swings, puzzles, colorful abacus can be major sources of joy for them.

You will be met with a lot of variety when you start shopping for toys. But remember, be species - specific. Don’t buy a toy made for a small parrot for your large Amazon or Macaw or vice versa.

You will have to experiment a bit to understand what your bird likes. Study him a bit and see what he plays with regularly.

1. Parrot love bright colors.
2. They love to make a lot of noise.
3. They love to chew.
4. They love to run after moving toys.
5. And they enjoy exercising their little brains.

So while selecting toys for your bird, keep the above listed points in mind.

You can choose bright key - toys that make a lot of noise. You can get a vegetable-tanned leather toy for your bird. You can also get riddle - toys, where your bird will have to figure how to get that “treat” that has been placed inside the toy.

But make sure in all the cases that the toys are bird-safe.

The best part is you can be innovative. Just watch your friend and try to understand what he enjoys most. And soon you will be into toy making yourself. Believe me, you will enjoy it.

Make sure to have different kinds of toys. And keep rotating them so that your bird doesn’t get a chance to get bored. It also helps in introducing new toys.

Perches give our friends a platform to stand on - a higher ground from where they can keep an eye on their surroundings. It gives them something to do. You will also see your parrot chewing the perches. They help to groom their beaks and claws.
